With 22 years as an aesthetician, I’ve worked with countless skin care products. There are a lot of choices for people to treat and address their various skin care concerns, and with that I see a “more is better” mentality. That certainly is not always the case when it comes to treating skin. One of the bigger misconceptions is that we need to clean our skin constantly. A thorough cleansing in the evening before bed is sufficient, followed by a cream or serum of your choice. Your skin regenerates overnight, so this gives your products a chance to do their work. In the morning, a quick rinse with a clean cloth and tepid water (maybe a spritz of your favorite toner or hydrosol) is really all that’s necessary. We also recommend daily sunblock. Too much cleansing is going to strip the acid mantle and lead to bigger problems. Needless to say, over the years I have found that “less is more”. In general, our bodies are miraculous finely tuned specimens built to regulate and heal themselves. Our skin is no different, and if you start loading on chemical laden products, the skin loses its ability to naturally regenerate. With that said, as we age, all of our systems slow down and it is necessary to incorporate regular exfoliation into our routine. This can include weekly masking or another favorite, the “dermaplane”. This is actually planeing the skin with a medical blade to remove the top layers of the skin (epidermis). This allows for your products to penetrate much more efficiently. I also love our new Celestial Dew Facial Mask, because it’s a lovely ritual (which encourages clients to do it more regularly) and leaves my skin glowing. It’s also hydrating enough for the dryer winter months. Enjoy!
